Cove | Iona Lane and Ranjana Ghatak

Having first collaborated under big skies and autumnal birdsong at Cove Park during Making Tracks 2022 Iona Lane and Ranjana Ghatak are brought together through their love of singing. Combining music from both of their backgrounds creating a beautiful soup of ethereal goodness.

“The very first time we sat down together to collaborate was quite daunting actually. I think we didn’t quite know what would happen,” explains Iona “But almost immediately I think we both knew it would be something special!”

A huge thank you to Making Tracks, Cove Park, Georgie Pope, SOAS, Heriot Toun, and the team at Hudson Records.

Her Stories | Ranjana Ghatak and Juhi Bansal(Composer)

Where do Women’s stories go? Bringing together elements of Hindustani, Western classical, and folk music, Her Stories was inspired by accounts from the community sent in response to the following prompts:

Q -Can you share a story of a woman from your family that had an impact on you or inspired you in some way?

Q - Is there something that you learnt about your history outside of traditional education that shifted your perspective on your heritage?

Tumho Meri Zameen celebrates the joy and love created through sisterhood and women raising each other’s voices in support of one another.

Nani’s Shawl tells of silence and sorrow between mothers and daughters through objects carried across the Indian partition.

Waves of Change draws on the incredible story of the young women of the Bangladesh Girls surf club as they fight to make choices driven by their love of the waves.

The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect is Ranjana Ghatak’s solo album, produced by Liran Donin (member of Mercury-Nominated band Led Bib) & performed with Liran and Jack Ross (member of Mercury-Nominated artist band Anna Meredith). Ranjana was inspired by the theory that the flap of a butterfly’s wings can have an impact across the planet, and how our own personal healing can affect the world around us. Drawing on inspiration from the Indian mystics and the world around her, this album takes you on a sonic journey that reflect the cycle of change and mark the transitions that can lead to a new chapter in life.

Produced by Jesse Bannister and Bhupinder Singh Chaggar, Ranjana’s first EP is made up of 4 tracks - Arrangements of some beautiful songs including a Krishna Mantra, bhajan, and a popular Bengali song from Ranjana’s childhood.

The tracks are arranged for with drums, tabla, bass, piano, bansuri, sarod and a vocal ensemble.
